Probably, Kabir Bedi names his first-born son after the title figure
of Siddhartha, one of the most popular works of German author Hermann
Hesse,

in India discovers Kabir Bedi and proposes him for the lead
role in the
Italian-produced TV mini series Sandokan. |

Kacche Dhage, his first big movie hit in India. |

Bedi's mother, Sister Palmo, travels in the West to raise awareness

the Tibetan-Buddhism cause. This year, she gives a series of lectures
at the Kagyu Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist centre in Scotland.
Sister Palmo also contributes to a language project to create a
Tibetan-English Dictionary, published later in around 1995 in Kathmandu,
Nepal. |

Protima Bedi starts
her first tour of Europe in Rome, where Kabir Bedi's father Baba
Bedi has set up his own centre for psychic healing. |

Protima Bedi is photographed
while she is streaking on northern Mumbai's Juhu beach to honour
a bet. The incident causes a stir.
Protima Bedi herself writes many years later that the incident
had nothing to do with streaking and that it happened on a beach
in
Goa, neither on Juhu beach nor on a busy street in Bombay (another
version of the so-called scandal).
However, Kabir Bedi is not in Bombay at this time but in Malaysia, filming
the TV-series Sandokan, in which he plays the lead.
When Protima Bedi goes to see him there, she tells him casually about the
incident, as Kabir Bedi recalls in an interview years later.
The Debonair press gets hold of the photographs. It is believed that Kabir
Bedi persuades editor Vinod Mehta to drop publication. However, there are
many published pictures of this event around... |
