EXCLUSIVE
On April 21, 1979
- exactly 25 years ago today - Kabir's worldwide success, Sandokan
- The Tiger of Malaysia, was shown for the very first time
on German TV.
On both prime
time broadcasts, Kabir Bedi found his way to viewers'
hearts.
Kabir has had a loyal fan following in Germany for the past 25 years, which
makes him very happy.
On the occasion of this silver jubilee, Kabir gave an interview for his official
website.
The interview with Kabir will appear in full on Kabir's
official website- with clips of his own voice!
Exclusively to members of the Kabir Bedi Club, here are some excerpts from
the interview:
"It's a historic anniversary.
Along with Italy and Spain, Germany has been one
of the main countries that made Sandokan happen, and made it
the phenomenon that
it was at the time and that it continues to be.
The German fans have been very
loyal. People in Germany have really kept up their interest...
I am firstly extraordinarily
grateful to them but also
in awe of the power of the story of Sandokan.
I of course was fortunate to be
chosen to play the role of Sandokan and so symbolise that character in people's
minds but let's not forget it was the
whole team that made it happen.
And what has sustained it has been the love
and admiration and the perseverance of all the fans that saw it from the
first moment and (that) has continued until today.
There aren't many television
series that 25 years after being broadcast.. have had such lasting effect on
people's consciousness.
Sandokan touched many people in many ways and the reasons why
it touched people
have endured.. the beauty of nature affected people, the music of Sandokan was
a huge contributory factor.
Of course the magnetism of the character
of Sandokan himself and the love story between Marianna and
himself was certainly a very emotional element to the whole thing because at
the end it's a great
love story as well."
The interview with Kabir will
appear in full on Kabir's official website- with clips of his own voice!
