| Kabir's
documentary will start in Germany |

A TATA TRUCK |
EXCLUSIVE
Kabir has just
arrived in Germany for two days of shooting on a documentary about
the Tata family, one of India's most prominent industrial dynasties.
His
first port of call will be the spa resort of Bad Nauheim, north
of Frankfurt, where Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the founding
father of the family, died 100 years ago.
J.N. Tata set up the
Central India Spinning, Weaving and Manufacturing Company and
became India's first cotton tycoon in the 19th century.
Kabir's
second stop will be Paris, the birthplace of Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy
Tata, who became India's first licenced pilot
and the founder of Tata Airlines.
The remainder of the shooting
will be done tightly scheduled in London from August 23 until
the end of the month.
Kabir
said in an interview with Kabir-Bedi.com on August 14, the Tatas
commissioned him to present the documentary partly because his wife
Nikki's
grandfather "used to be one
of the key top executives in the Tata company and also was almost
like a mentor to the man who today heads the Tata empire."
"So
it's a very close family relationship," Kabir said.
"They
just wanted somebody very prestigious to present on screen and
off screen the story of their two great founders."
The English-language
film is directed by Zafar Hai who apart from making feature films
and commercials, "made some beautiful
documentaries on the Taj Mahal itself and on the Taj Mahal Hotel," a
key Mumbai landmark also celebrating its centenary, Kabir said.
The documentary is produced by Cinerad Communications.
It will be approximately one hour long, possibly longer, and perhaps
will be broadcast on TV, shown to special groups and on events.
The documentary will be completed end of 2004.
Today, the
Tata company is headed by chairman Ratan Tata and produces anything
from energy to mobile phones, metals, cars, information technology
and financial services.
Beautifully decorated Tata trucks (see
picture!) are ubiquitous on Indian roads.
"I'm happy to do
this for the Tatas because apart from being one of India's biggest
industrial families they are also one of
the most ethical business families that exist in India.
It's something
I'm happy to lend my name to," Kabir said.
