| Kabir presents Asian Power 100 ceremony in London | |

| EXCLUSIVE Taking a night off from his West End musical, The Far Pavilions, Kabir today (September 1, 2005) presented the Asian Power 100 ceremony celebrating the achievements of the Asian community in Britain. Dressed in a traditional Indian outfit, Kabir presided over the London Hilton ceremony in which the 100 most powerful Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan men and women living in the UK were honoured for their achievements. Kabir noted how thousands of people from the subcontinent arrived in Britain after India's independence in 1947, struggling against economic deprivation and prejudice to make a better life for themselves. Today, they are an economic and political force to be reckoned with, and have become an essential part of British society, he said. Later in the evening, Kabir chatted with Pravin Patel, his former schoolmate at Sherwood College, Nainital, who organised the Old Sherwoodians reunion in London (June 5, 2005). Kabir was joined at the dinner table by his son Adam, who was on a brief visit to see his dad appear in the West End musical, The Far Pavilions. "Have you ever wondered how many of the 2.9 million British Asians... have broken through glass ceilings?" Kabir said. He said many of the 100 people being honoured had their mother or father, or both, to thank for their advancement. "Family ties have been the backbone of the British Asian community for many, many years," he said. Kabir called for special gratitude to "the first generation of Asian immigrants in Britain, the pioneers of British Asian society," whose sense of responsibility for their children made British Asians what they are today.
