PEOPLE |
• Zeenat Aman is considered
to have been "discovered" by
movie star Dev Anand, but makes her movie debut in Hulchul
as
Neena.
•
A few years after Hulchul, Kabir Bedi plays
alongside Zeenat Aman once more in ISHQ,
ISHQ, ISHQ (1974).
•
Zeenat Aman was the third choice for one
of the female leads in Dev Anand screen hit Hare Rama Hare
Krishna (1971), where she appeared as an anti-hero. Right
after the shooting she wanted to travel to Malta, where her
stepfather was now working, together with
her parents. Director/star Dev Anand asked her to put
off her departure until after the premiere,
because the movie was already making rave headlines. Newcomer
Zeenat Aman received widespread praise for her
acting, completely overshadowing the well established
female co-star
Mumtaz. This had never been done before in the Indian movie
industry. And in another first, the Indian public
acclaimed a star who did not play an ultra-virtuous
heroine but a very controversial part as a hippie.
•
Zeenat Aman is one of the first Indian screen actresses
to have played modern, successful career women.
•
Zeenat Aman worked with male co-stars who
were quite unknown at the time, and helped
them establish their careers - another thing unheard of in the Indian film business until then.
•
Zeenat Aman was born in 1951 and was crowned Miss Asia Pacific in 1971.
•
Zeenat Aman's daring "wet sari" scenes in Raj Kapoor's
hit Satyam Shivam Sundaram: Love Sublime (1978)
were a big change from how female behaviour and female
desires were represented on Indian movie screens until
then.
•
Of all the female Bollywood stars, only Bipasha Basu,
Kabir's co-star in RUDRAKSH (2004), is considered to be Zeenat
Aman's real successor. •
Tun Tun appeared
with Kabir
Bedi in many other films apart from Hulchul,
including KANOON
KA SHIKAR (1979), MAA
BAHEN AUR BIWI (1973), KUCHCHE
DHAAGE (1973) and NAGIN (1976).
• Tun Tun's real name was Uma Devi
Khatri.
• Tun Tun was a famous and much-beloved comedienne and
singer. She died at the age of 75 in Mumbai on November 24, 2003.
• Tun Tun came to Mumbai
to become a singer and recorded her first screen song in 1947.
• Naushad, one of India's most famous film music composers, discovered
Tun Tun. Together with director A.R. Kadar, they became a regular
movie hit factory.
Naushad also composed the music for Kabir's film TAJ
MAHAL.AN ETERNAL LOVE STORY.
• Composer Naushad also recognised the singer's talent for comedy timing,
and produced the first movie with Tun Tun in a comic role in 1950.
• Big-eyed comedienne Tun Tun played in over 100 films. |
