...Ravikant
Nagaich's THIEF OF BAGHDAD (1977), also starring
Kabir Bedi, or
another Hindi-film Thief of Baghdad (1968), starring Dara Singh,
Nishi, Helen and Sheikh.
Among many film versions of the Thief of Baghdad, Ludwig Berger's/Michael
Powell's adventure classic from 1940, starring young Indian star
Sabu as 'Abu' and - among others - Conrad Veidt, stands out -
even after 65 years.
There is also an Indian TV serial called Thief of Baghdad, described
as "fantasy on Arabian Nights". The 60-minutes episodes
were broadcast on Wednesdays from Autumn 2000 on Zee TV.
Another project, in English, Telugu and Hindi, is Douchan Gersi's
Return of the Thief of Baghdad, starring Telugu-star Chiranjeevi
(Abu), Jason Connery, Charlotte Ayanna, Manisha Koirala, Richard
Kiel, Omar Sharif and others.
Filmed on location in India since Summer 1999, the production
of the film has now been stopped. |

| INFORMATION -
QUICK BITS |
• Director
Clive Donner chose Kabir for
his movie because "he looks like a real prince". • Although
the film received a certificate '[suitable for children]
from 6 years' from the FSK in Germany, some of the scenes
are
too
scary
for very young children, according to film critics. |

| INFORMATION -
GENERAL INFORMATION |
| • While
filming a scene for The Thief of Baghdad, the scaffold
- four metres high - collapsed to which the "flying
carpet" was attached. The stars were sent "flying" to
the ground - fortunately nobody was injured. |
