Donner's THIEF OF BAGHDAD (1978), also starring Kabir
Bedi, or
another Hindi-film Thief of Baghdad (1968), starring Dara Singh,
Nishi,
Helen and Sheikh.
Among many film versions of the Thief of Baghdad, Ludwig Berger's/Michael
Powell's adventure classic from 1940, starring young Indian star
Sabu as
'Abu' and - among others - Conrad Veidt, stands out - even after
65 years.
There is also an Indian TV serial called Thief of Baghdad, described
as "fantasy on Arabian Nights". The 60-minutes episodes were
broadcast on Wednesdays from Autumn 2000 on Zee
TV.
Another project, in English, Telugu and Hindi,
is Douchan Gersi's Return of the Thief
of
Baghdad, starring Telugu-star
Chiranjeevi (Abu), Jason Connery, Charlotte Ayanna, Manisha Koirala,
Richard Kiel, Omar Sharif and others.
Filmed on location in India since Summer 1999, the production of the film has
now been stopped. |
